As an ongoing mission to incorporate sustainable and environmentally friendly products and processes into our daily sign business, we have added the Matthews Low VOC paint matching system, an environmentally friendly, high-performance polyurethane paint that limits VOC to less than 50g, while providing greater durability, gloss retention, and hiding than standard acrylic ployurethane paints. So, if you’re looking for a Seattle sign company that’s environmentally friendly, whether its to print your business signs or vinyl banners, you’ve come to the right place!
WHAT ARE VOCs?
VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands. Examples include: paints and lacquers, paint strippers, cleaning supplies, pesticides, building materials and furnishings, office equipment such as copiers and printers, correction fluids and carbonless copy paper, graphics and craft materials including glues and adhesives, permanent markers, and photographic solutions.
ADVANTAGES OF LOW-VOC PAINT:
- Low-VOC paints are less toxic and cause less toxic emissions.
- Low-VOC paints have a lower odor and less impact on the air quality, which makes them perfect for schools, hospitals, and of course, homes.
- Low-VOC paints are less likely to cause allergies due to reduced toxin levels.
- Matthews Paint meets California's strict regulations for VOC emissions.
A great compliment to our new Low-VOC paint is the use of zero-VOC inks in our digital printing. Our large format digital printer is the Roland Eco-Sol xc540, whose solvent-based inks exhaust NO volatile VOCs. Eco-Sol MAX® inks are GREENGUARD Certified products. These inks meet some of the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of VOCs into indoor air.
LEED CREDITS:
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is a voluntary, consensus based rating system for evaluating the environmental performance of building and community design, construction, operations and maintenance. Using Low-VOC paint can help you qualify for credits. For more information visit the US Green Building Council.
WE’RE DOING MORE:
We are taking further steps to incorporate green methods into our business practice.
- We look for metals that contain a high percentage of recycled matter.
- When designing signs, serious thought is given to materials and sign sizes to use products more efficiently.
- We encourage use of more environmentally friendly products in sign making such as bamboo, cork, recycled glass, MDF, Richlite, and more.
We’re dedicated to making our environment safer for everyone!
